I've had the 12 bottle silent refrigerator for just about a year now. it has worked pretty well so far except that when the room gets warm as it tends to do in the summer it seems that the unit has some trouble staying at the set temp. is this normal?

I have two coolers and they really are silent. The 12 bottle unit I've had for 2 years in a small space next to the china cabinet. Last year I needed a larger one and I found a 28 bottle unit here in south Florida at the local department store. That one was a little harder to hide but it still looks ok in the corner of the dining room. Temperature in the house stays between 77 and 79 degrees constantly. I have no problems so far keeping both units at 55, and they both are very quiet.

I'm very much in favor of using this type of cooling - another word for devices that use this thermoelectric principle is the "Peltier Cooler". The drawback is that it's a highly inefficient way of cooling, basically the other side of the Peltier device will be extremely hot, not unlike the condenser coils on a classical fridge. But like this article is emphasizing, there is absolutely no noise.

Hi George, thanks for your comment. It should take a day to reach the desired temperature. It can change based on the # of bottles in your unit, but since you only have 12 bottles, that is all it should take. Has the unit chilled accordingly now?

Hi Bruce-- I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed with your unit but 54 is actually a perfect temperature to store wine at, including reds. It sounds like your unit is in good condition. Please take it out of your garage and put it to some good use!

My unit will only maintain 54 degrees! Nothing else. it is worthless for reds. I keep it in the gqarage, unplugged, since Habitat will not accept it.

I own one of the Silent Wine Refrigerators. I keep it in my den which has a temperature range of about 68-72 degrees. Equally as important I have space off of the back, top, and sides of the unit to ensure the unit vents properly. The unit has been holding tight at 55 degrees and as quiet as advertised!
